Bridesmaid Dress Guide

Have you ever related to a movie so much that it’s a little painful? Well for me that movie is “27 Dresses” with Katherine Heigl! I’m still waiting for the day Hallmark calls and wants to make a film called “The Wedding Videographer.” But in all seriousness, if there is one thing I know and love it’s a good bridesmaid dress.

"Aren't these dresses great? And the best thing is you can shorten it and wear it again."

I have loved the evolution of bridesmaid dresses over the years. They went from very traditional and conservative to out of the box and sometimes downright sexy! Let me be clear, I am a fan of both. I am always going to support someone in choosing a traditional/timeless look because it will never go out of style. That being said, I absolutely love looking at photos of my mom participating in all the horrible fashion trends of the 70’s/80’s/90’s. I also can’t wait for my future daughter to roast me for all the fashion fun I’m having in my 20’s. So if you want to go the trendy route, I am not going to be the one to stop you and when my day comes, I will probably pick the most trendy and fabulous gowns for my girls to wear as they stand behind me on the most romantic day of my life.

Spring:

When it comes to spring, we think light colors, pastels, pallets with low saturation. These color themes bleed into the summer season and destination weddings. Some of the most popular pastel colors for bridal party dresses are light blue, blush, lilac, pale yellow, mint green. I also like to see lilac and hints of deep purples/pinks in the details. Spring is the perfect season to choose a floral print or mix and match dresses within a certain color pallet.

Summer:

I love a good summer wedding. I always think it’s nice to consider the bridal party in the heat of summer and go for a style that is equal parts fashion and function. We love a dress that will let you stay breezy on the dance floor or better yet a short dress that will not show sweat so easily! Mint Green. This is such a fresh color for summer weddings and you can add in other colors for contrast too. When it comes to colors, I think you can get away with a lot in the summer months but here are my go-to colors: blue, moss green, sunshine yellow, lilac, mauve, gold/rust, corals.

Fall:

Fall weddings are where things start to get moody and deep in color. This is the season we start to really see emerald greens, dark mauve, dusty rose, terracotta and so many of those deep rich colors.

Winter:

One of the trickiest seasons to style for a bridal party. We want our ladies to stay warm but also need to ensure they can bust a move on the dance floor. I would recommend finding a jacket or cover up to gift your bridal party to help keep them warm during photos if you opt to do them outside. Although it can be tricky, it is by far one of the more glamorous seasons to have a wedding. The pallet is giving reds, royal blue, mulberry, pine green, emerald green.

Bridesmaids Shoes & Accessories:

This is a great time to think about treating your girls to something sweet from you to remember the day you spent together celebrating love! Weddings can get very expensive, so you certainly don’t need to spend more money doing this but if you have a little something extra to give as a thank you to the women you have standing beside you, these are some of my favs!

I would love to know what bridal trends you’re loving right now. I am thinking of doing a wedding must-have list to help future brides plan their big days. What would you recommend as something every bride needs to do on her wedding day?
